Hello all,

It’s time for another Board Games Night! We’ll meet next Saturday, May 21, at 18:00 in Cajsa room in the New Student House for a night of fun and games and good company!

The concept is simple: Bring your favorite board or card games and we will play them together. And even if you don’t have any games yourself don’t worry, there will be some games for different tastes on the table.

So drop in at any time during the evening, to play some games. Or just come to hang out with some old and new friends in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Tsemppi is celebrating the beginning of the outdoors season with a pub night starting at terrace-bar Café Piritta on Friday, May 20 at 19:00.

Come and enjoy the evening sun in the company of internationally minded people and remember why Helsinki is such a great place to live in (at least in summer time)! After a couple of drinks, we’ll move on to some of the other bars in Kallio.

We are very happy to announce that during the extraordinary general meeting this week, we have decided on new Rules for Tsemppi!

The rule changes were necessary for registering as an official organization in Finland, which opens us more opportunities for fundraising and activities. Be prepared to hear much more from us now that our internal organization has been sorted out!

You are cordially invited to Tsemppi’s extraordinary general meeting on April 5th, at 17-19 in the Tsemppi room. We’re going to focus mostly on issues that have to do with Tsemppi becoming a registered organization. The agenda looks as following:

1. EXTRAORDINARY CHANGES TO TSEMPPI

a) Changes to Tsemppi Constitution

The Board proposes changes to Tsemppi constitution to be in line with Finnish regulations on registered organizations.

b) Name Change

The Board proposes name change to ‘TSEMPPI – an organization for internationally-minded STUDENTS and RESEARCHERS at the University of Helsinki’  

2. COMMUNICATIONS

a) Communications strategy, including Tsemppi web site and Facebook presence

Set date for special theme board meeting (to be held on weekend) on Tsemppi communications strategy/efforts.

Minutes of the Annual General Meeting on February 21, 2011

Place: Tsemppi room, Mannerheimintie 5B, 4^th floor.

1§ Discussion and Approval of Annual Reports

The annual report 2010 was discussed, minor changes were made, and the report approved by the meeting.

The financial report 2010 was discussed, and it was decided to suspend its approval until a new version will be send to the participants of this meeting, and approval was given later via e-mail once the financial report was polished.

The action plan for 2011 was discussed and it was decided to create a google-document, which will be jointly edited so that additional plans regarding the strategy towards Master’s degree students will be included. The document will be edited until Thursday and then uploaded to the tahlo-interface. The action plan 2011 was approved.

It was decided to update the information of the Tsemppi-slot on the organizational blackboard in the main building of the University and to create a new mission statement for Tsemppi that will replace the information available on the website and in all external presentation of the organization.

2 § Election of auditor

Tianyan Liu was elected auditor for 2011.

3§ Release of the previous Board

The previous Board was released.

4§ Changes in the Regulations of Tsemppi

It was decided to change the official name of Tsemppi from “The name of the organization is TSEMPPI – an organization for international degree students at the University of Helsinki (the rules of Tsemppi, article 1.1) to “TSEMPPI – an organization for internationally-minded people at the University of Helsinki” in order to better reflect the members of Tsemppi, who are also PhD-students, Post-docs, etc. and cannot be subsumed under the label “international degree students” any longer.

5§ Elections of the New Board

Katrina Jurva was elected President.

Laura Sibinescu was elected Secretary / Vice-President.

Feiran Long was elected Treasurer.

Giuseppe Lugano was elected PhD-coordinator.

Mohsen Saadatmand was elected coordinator for post-docs and PhD-students.

Henrik Schmidt was elected board member responsible for social events.

Liisa Ketolainen was elected board member responsible for social and political affairs.

Søren Berg-Rasmussen was elected board member responsible for external relations.

Giangabriele Casci was elected board member responsible for IT support.

Linge Ayubah and Johanna Leinius were elected board members.

6§ Other issues

There will be a dropbox-folder created where Tsemppi will collect templates and relevant documents, creating an institutional memory that will provide continuity for its organizational life so that no knowledge will be lost.

7§ Next Meeting

The next Tsemppi meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 8, at 17:00h. This year’s strategy and a schedule of events will be discussed.

Dear all,

Tsemppi invites you all to its annual general meeting, which will be held on February 21 at 5 PM in the Tsemppi room.

The main point on the agenda is the election of the new board of Tsemppi and a discussion about the future of Tsemppi. What is happening right now is that the ‘old’ active members are gradually becoming less active in the organization, which means that now is the perfect opportunity for you to influence where Tsemppi is going!

So be welcome to the meeting, whether you have been active in Tsemmpi or not, whether you know what Tsemppi is about or whether you simply want to see how student organizations work “behind the scenes”. We will start this year with a much smaller board and we would like to encourage new people to also stand for positions on the board when interested. The meeting will take place in the Tsemppi Room on Monday 21 February at 17:00 (New Student House, Mannerheimintie 5B, B-staircase, 4th floor). To get there, take the elevator or the stairs to the 4th floor and then turn right until the end of the corridor, it’s the door on the right, which will be open.

Even if you do not wish be on the board, feel free to come to the meeting as you have the right to vote for the new board and we would be happy about any input/criticism/suggestions you have.

Hello to all english speaking Viikkiites (and everyone else, too)!

Based on the great response to last week’s friday drinks in our own friendly neighbourhood chain restaurant, we are going to do it again this week!

So stop playing with the magnetic stirrer, tear yourself away from watching the split values on your phylogenetics programme, and pull on your muddy boots to walk over to the Viikki Chicos at 5.30 for a relaxed drink or two.

Hello all,

You are invited to join Tsemppi on Wednesday, December 1 for ice skating at the Kallio outdoor ice rink!

When and where: Meet us at 16.30 on the northwest corner of Helsinginkatu and Kaarlenkatu (i.e., the corner closest to the rink). The rink is open until 18.30 for skating.

Cost: The entrance cost is 1.50 for students and 3 euros for adults. If you don’t have your own skates, rentals are also available for a few euros more.

Note: Don’t forget to dress warmly if the weather is cold! Layers are best.

‘The Snow Queen’s Ball’

ESN and Tsemppi request the pleasure of your company at the Snow Queen’s Ball on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Alina-sali on the second floor of the New Student House, Mannerheimintie 5A.

The Ball will start with cocktails at 7.15 o’clock, and dinner will be served at 8 o’clock. The dinner will be followed by an afterparty from 11.30 onwards. Everyone is most welcome to join us for the afterparty, for the registration for the Sitsit please follow the instructions below.

Dark suit.

The price of the Sitsit is 17 euros for the alcoholic and 13 for the non-alcoholic option.
