International Master’s Programmes Feedback and Development Meeting

We are organising a meeting to bring together all those invested in the development of the International Master Degrees at the University of Helsinki located at the city campus.

The internationalization strategy of the University of Helsinki is bringing more and more international students to the university, and it is time to take a step back and look at what has been achieved so far and how the current situation in the International Master programmes is.

We want to provide a forum to share information and experiences from these programmes, especially also from a student perspective, in order to find areas which are excellent, but also those where improvements could be made.

We hope that this meeting will be the beginning of a fruitful exchange of knowledge and ideas which will benefit the students and the programmes now and in the future.

Please confirm your attendance so that we can prepare food and drinks accordingly. We meet in Aurora-saali at the New Student House (Mannerheimintie 5B, 3rd floor).

Swiss-Francophone Fondue Night

Tsemppi invites all of you to the first International Dinner Night this year!

We will prepare some delicious cheese Fondue for you, and as dessert, there is going to be chocolate Fondue.

The event will take place on Friday, the 9th of April, at 18:00 in Aurora-saali at the New Studenthouse. We will charge 6 Euros for food and one glass of white wine/non-alcoholic drink. If you want to drink more, please bring your own stuff! We will also be selling some wine at the event.

As there are only limited places at the Fondue pots, we have to restrict participation to 15 people. So be fast and enjoy a night of French music, Swiss Fondue and good company with Tsemppi! Also participating is Bouffe, the French student organization of the University of Helsinki.

Board Game Night!

Are you staying in Helsinki over Easter break? In need of a nice evening with good company? Having gone a long time without playing your favourite board or card games because you either didn’t bring any games to Finland or never found enough people willing to play?

Then come and join us at Board (and Card) Games Night!

The concept of the night is easy: Bring your favourite boardgames or cardgames and we will play them together. Don’t worry if you don’t have any, there will definitely be some games on the table, with Munchkin and Ligretto definitely included.

So come and stay the whole evening or simply drop in for a quick game before going to the bars.

When: Saturday, the 3rd of April from 18:00 onwards
Where: Aurora saali (Mannerheimintie 5B, 3rd floor)
What: Boardgames, cardgames and a lot of fun

Some refreshments and snacks will be served but feel free to bring your own goodies.

Finnish in a Bottle

Are you taking a Finnish class but feel that you are not learning any useful words? Do you know how to build the partitive case but fail to say “Fuck off” to the annoying drunk talking to you on the bus?

Then come to Finnish in a Bottle and learn the Finnish you really need out there!

Finnish in a Bottle essentially just means exactly that: Drink and play a fun language game and learn new words while having a good time. It does not matter how good your Finnish is (or if you even know Finnish), everybody will learn something.

We will have some small snacks, but recommend that you bring your own drinks.

Welcome!

Tsemppi welcomes all new and old students to the new academic year.

On Thursday the 17th of September Tsemppi will host its annual welcome party. It will take place in Aurora at the New Student House(Mannerheimintie 5B, 3rd Floor) at 19.00. It will be an informal get together that will give you the chance to get to know us and for us to get to know you. Read more here.

On Friday the 7th you will find Tsemppi at the opening carnival. Come and get to know us and many of the other international students at the university. Read more here.

On Tuesday the 8th of September you can come and learn more about the housing problem facing the international students this year. This is your chance to have your questions answered by the representatives from the City of Helsinki, the University and the Student Union. Read more here.

On Sunday the 13th you can join Tsemppi for a nice excursion to the Nuuksio park, where you can get a glimpse of the beautiful Finnish nature as well as having a nice time with the friendly international students from Tsemppi. Read more here.

Board Meeting Minutes – 05.03.2009

Present: Julia, Alex, Soren, Giuseppe, Long, Tianyan, Ami, Marja-Liisa

Items discussed:

  • Tianyan is going to do the invitation letter (for new students)
  • Ami is to check if info@tsemppi email address still works (password and all that)
  • Website meeting Saturday
  • Ancis: Julia is going to try to get “those” people to come to Helsinki on Thursday to discuss about the hosting of the event and all that. (by the way Julia, good luck with the exam tomorrow!)
  • Giuseppe will contact the necessary people with regards to the post-grad project
  • on the 21st, there is a panel discussion about immigration for students. At 11:30 (the location was not specified) Ami said he could do it/go there.
  • Vuosijuhla: we need to figure out what happens with the band. Soren offered to do that. Also maybe a little presentation of the history of Tsemppi (movie trailer style anybody?) We need people to do the decorations
  • Pohjanhovi: in process (ok, I was told to write this, I am not sure exactly what it means)
  • French dinner evening on April 3rd.

Board Meeting Minutes – Feburary 19th, 2009

Time: February 19th, 2009, 18:00 Place: Kuppila / vanha

Present: Julia, Alex, Tianyan, Ami, Rachel, Soren, Anna, Sedeer, Marja-Liisa and Georgi.

1) Julia is to send Soren the final version of the HYY applications (and he will transform them into PDF’s)

2) Bulgarian Dinner Night – Either in the last week of April or the first week of May. Georgi will check the dates and also the (bulgarian) people involved, like ambassadors, etc. We will have to check the availability of the rooms (Alina Sali will only be free on a Monday, Mannerheim might be free on other days)

3) Laskiainen – Next Tuesday. Saturday morning, a flag will be made at Soren’s place. Tusday meeting will be at around 2 o’clock. No exact spot was decided upon.

4) The Anniversary – April the 25th. On the 26th we will meet and discuss the event (at 12 at Ylliopilasaukio, if I wrote down correctly). Buffer discussion…We also need to discuss how much money Tsemppi is willing to spend from the budget in case it is needed.

Tianyan must make the drafts for the invitations (we need to send out the invitations within the next 3 weeks (electronic invitations included)) +make a poster +design drink tickets.

(and somebody said somehting about going thursday at 18:00 to the ‘place’ where ‘they’ would show ‘it’ to us…Julia, u know what was meant by this?)

5) French dinner evening – will be decided upon at the next meeting

6) March 20th date chosen for Finnish in a bottle. (Place not mentioned)

7) Crafts night – Wednesday 11th March. (Place not mentioned)

8)Board Games Night (yaaay) – April 4th. (Place not mentioned)

9) Museum trips – Rachel will be making some inquieries about it (is this spelled correctly?)
