HYY Elections - 2009

Thanks for your support!

Thanks to your support, international students at the University of Helsinki will continue to be represented on the HYY council of representatives. Our winning candidate for 2010-2011 is Anna Bessonova. Congratulations Anna and thanks to all of our candidates and supporters for their hard work.

This year we also have, for the first time, a position on the HYY Board. Tsemppi's own Søren Berg Rasmussen is the HYY board member for international affairs for 2010.

Housing

Homeless in Helsinki?

HYY is directly involved in running HOAS. HYY can make sure international degree students are given fair consideration when HOAS distributes their apartments, rather than being left to arrange their own housing in a language and a country they do not understand.

HOAS should assign students to shared apartments based on their housing needs, not their nationality. Shared apartments should be mixed between international students and Finns.

Tsemppi Group is determined to make it happen.

Health care

Has you insurance given you a pain in your wallet?

Having trouble finding insurance satisfying the visa-people but does not cost an arm and a leg? Do you worry that your insurance does not cover you, in case things go wrong?

A group insurance scheme would solve all these problems, and also be a cheap way for Finnish students to buy private insurance if they want to.

Tsemppi Group will make sure HYY works towards this solution.

Friday Bar

Ever wondered why a beer in Vanha costs more than a meal in Unicafe?

Would you like a bar with student friendly prices in the centre of Helsinki? Vanha should be turned into an affordable student bar every Friday.

Compared to other European student unions HYY has a surprisingly low level of social interaction across faculties and departments. By arranging a student bar, with low prices, a venue for better and broader social interaction would be created.
